Education

Nearly complete English degree, Carlow University Classes in Comparative Literature, Spanish, Business and Persuasive Writing, Public Speaking

Experience

Some of the people in my college classes have asked me to tutor them in subjects that were foreign to them or hard to understand in general, and they really liked their test scores as a result. You will find my instructions easy to understand and will look at subjects in a new way than they've been explained to you in class! My own grades are always solid, A's or B's. My relevant classes have been: Comparative, American, and Brit Literature Spanish, Russian, and ASL Business, Journalistic, and Persuasive Writing Philosophy and Ethics Public Speaking Creative Writing, Fiction, Poetry Religion Lifestyle and Nutrition

Hobbies

Thanks for taking a look! My personal skills are very strong and people find it easy to talk to me: they'd call me pretty easy-going, but very intuitive to boot. More importantly, they would say that my personality is very patient and kind. My last job at St. Margaret's hospital helped shape this part of me, by putting me in contact with people who needed help in little ways (or just needed a listening ear) and giving me a chance to care about them. My philosophy is that work itself is a priority...but the people for whom you work will always come first. My hobbies are writing for fun (poetry, my life as nonfiction, research) or reading: about health, nutrition, gardening, environmental issues, religion, or pretty much any cultural hot topic. Barnes & Noble is a favorite haunt, as is any library. It's amazing what one can find a book written about: collector's guides, conspiracy theories, and life stories that seem unbelievable. My days off find me thrift shopping, or at a farmer's market with a friend, or - as school starts this fall – studying for classes, of course! My college major is English, and it will be completed within the next three semesters. School has always been enjoyable, to me, and explaining and teaching information to other people comes very naturally. A gentleman from my Philosophy class in 2014 told me that my time spent helping him understand some test material saved his grade – which was extremely rewarding to hear, and made me wonder if there was a way to help other people who were trying to grasp their subjects! My strongest subjects are actually related to Reading, Writing, and Public Speaking. Of course, it's essential to distract myself from school at times with fun stuff (as easy as it is to forget what that is during the school year...) like the aforementioned shopping or market perusing. Accordingly, here are more odds-and-ends hobbies that work their way into my life: clipping coupons, reading sciencedaily.com for the occasional tidbit of news, hanging out with two younger brothers, and taking care of my dwarf rabbit. Not to mention card-making, which tends to take up more of my time (and my space) than you might originally guess...but offers a cheap way to make someone smile and save money on special occasions. As a last-but-not-least, cooking is an extremely fun hobby, in my opinion. Mealtime generally finds me in the kitchen, not just opening and closing cupboard doors but experimenting, measuring, baking, over-seasoning, and basically lost in my own happy little world. Now, if only one could tutor a cooking student, life would be nearly perfect... Well, we've reached a point where it seems like we almost know each other. You have a good idea of what my free time gets spent on, what I'm accomplishing with school, and what exactly makes me a good tutor. Please feel free to email me with a question about my profile, a serious inquiry, or any other information you'd like, and you can expect an email back right away! Sincerely, Emma
